Ratan Tata’s vision for a super speciality hospital for pets will be launched in Mahalaxmi (Mumbai) in March 2024. Philanthropist and former Tata Group Chairman feels that pets are family and their lives matter to every pet parent. When he looked around and saw the lack of infrastructure for pets in India, it made him wonder why, in such a large country with a significant pet population, one cannot have a facility that can save lives and make pet lives better.
The hospital will span over 98,000 square feet (2.2 acres), across five floors, with a capacity of more than 200 beds and built at an approximate cost of ₹165 crores. The facility will be equipped with 24 * 7 services to deliver quality care with a mission to saving lives.
The hospital will have Emergency & Critical Care; Inpatient and ICU Units; Surgical Services such as Soft Tissue Surgery and Orthopaedics; Pharmacy Services; and support functions such as Diagnostics, Radiology and Imaging, including MRI, X-Ray, CT scan and USG. It will also provide laboratory services covering Haematology, Microbiology, Cytology, Clinical Pathology, Biochemistry, Histo-pathology and Anaesthesia.
Dr. Thomas Heathcote, Chief Veterinary Officer, Advanced Veterinary Care Facility (ACVF), said, “As one of India’s leading philanthropic institutions, we acknowledge the interconnected links between human health and animal health, and are committed to enhancing the quality of pet healthcare in the country. The hospital, which is set to launch in phases, will cover comprehensive advanced healthcare for pets across the continuum, right from consultation and diagnostics, to treatment, to high-level nursing care, and resolution of their problems.”
